The Most Reverend Paul LaRocque,
second Bishop of Sherbrooke

He was appointed on September 24, 1893, by Pope Leo XIII and received episcopal ordination on November 30, 1893, in the Cathedral of Sherbrooke.  He invited The Little Sisters of the Holy Family to establish their motherhouse in Sherbrooke in 1895.  He erected 37 new parishes.  He had the Pauline Chapel and the present bishop’s residence (1917-1919) built.  He died in Sherbrooke on August 15, 1926.

Bishop Paul LaRocque, second Bishop of Sherbrooke, is looking for nuns for his seminary and residence. Informed, Sister Marie-Leonie consulted, reflected and decided to transfer the mother house and novitiate of the Little Sisters of the Holy Family to Sherbrooke. In 1896, she obtained diocesan approval, which Bishop John Sweeney of Saint John, New Brunswick, had always refused to give to her new community.
