History of Virginie Alodie Paradis
She was born on May 12, 1840 in L'Acadie, then from the Diocese of Montreal, now from the Diocese of Saint-Jean-Longueuil and merged with the city of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. Baptized under the name of Virginie Alodie, her family always called her Elodie.
She was the only daughter and the third in a family of six children, four of whom will survive. Her parents, Joseph Paradis and Émilie Grégoire, struggled to earn a living in a rural area. She inherits the goodness and gentleness of one as well as the firmness and charity of the other.
